For Better or Worse Wedding Belles Lauren Layne 9781501135156 Books

This is exactly the story I was looking forward to in this series: fun, cute, entertaining dialogue and very low on the angsty drama.

Heather Fowler is the stereotype of small-town girls, making her dream of living in the big city a reality when she moved to the Big Apple to become a wedding planner. Landing a high profile wedding for a very influential and wealthy client as her first solo assignment is a daunting task but Heather is up to it. Just as long as she can get some sleep in her own apartment, something that appears to be difficult since her next door neighbor has an affinity for playing his drums at odd hours.

Josh Tanner is an aspiring musician, but before that he was an investment banker on Wall Street, with the fast life and all the trappings of success. Until a life-changing medical diagnosis forced him to reassess his priorities. These days he's content with a low key lifestyle, except he's not interested in long term relationships anymore. But the temptation his neighbor presents is hard to resist. And why does he take so much pleasure in annoying her?

Why did I enjoy this book so much?

First of all, the characters. Heather is a small-town girl at heart and living in NYC hasn't changed that. She's sweet but feisty and very independent, but she's also a dreamer and romantic, which is fitting for her job. Josh is a really great guy who hides a lot behind his friendly and easygoing exterior and his man-whore ways but he is always ready and willing to step up and help.

Second, the witty repartee. This is what I always look forward to any time I pick up a Lauren Layne book and she did not disappoint. The dialogue is fast, lively and enjoyable. And if sometimes Josh reminded me of the little boy pulling the girl's pigtails on the playground to get her attention, well sue me because I thought it was cute.

Third, the relationships. I always enjoy the friendships and the new connections formed among the characters, something Ms. Layne does so well and watching Josh connect with Seth and Logan melted my heart.

Speaking of Logan, the chemistry he generates with Alexa can power a small town and I cannot wait for their story.

In FOR BETTER OR WORSE, Ms. Layne delivers a charming story of passion, friendship, family and second chances, definitely one for the keeper shelf.

4.5 stars -- I received a free copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review/opinion.

Oh heck yes!! The chemistry and bantering between Josh and Heather MADE this book amazing, from start to finish. I can't even tell you how many times I laughed. I mean, mostly it was at the outrageous things that came out of Josh's mouth...any man that can make me snort is a winner in my book. But honestly, Heather and Josh just fit so well together. She was sassy and held her own against him in their many battles of words. The two of them together were just packed full of chemistry, so when we got to the sexy times, it was totally hot.

I enjoyed their own individual stories as well. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about Heather and her Mom dynamics. I was sad for her at Thanksgiving, but I kind of understood what her Mom was getting at when they had their conversation at Christmas. I still thought her Mom could have shown a bit more effort at enjoying Heather's life with her, even if Heather had her own things to work out besides all that.

And Josh had a bit of a heartbreaking story of his own. I really enjoyed his family dynamics, and how his history had affected them. He had his own figuring out to do, and growing and developing. Occasionally it was frustrating to watch him dig in his heels, but at the same time it felt realistic for what he was going through and I really felt his fear. (but seriously, what is with me finding these Cancer books right now? Is there a conspiracy?)

All in all this has been my absolute fave of the series so far. I'm still unsure how I'm going to enjoy Alexis and Logan's book next, I really can't get a feel for how that's going to work and what kind of character Alexis actually is. But in truth, Heather's book was the one I was most looking forward to, and it totally lived up to my expectations. Even though Josh had a bit of a player start, I totally fell in love with him and his smart mouth. I could read so much more of him.
This is a great second book in the Wedding Belles series. Heather Fowler is an assistant wedding planner and she is doing everything she can to become a full wedding planner. She moved to New York City for her dream, now she has a wonderful apartment she just moved into and is on her way to getting her promotion. She finds out that part of the problem of her new apartment is her neighbor who plays loud music late at night. Josh Tanner was a Wall Street Hedge Fund Manager and very successful. But after some health problems, he quit his job and now plays in a band. He still has plenty of money where he doesn't need to work.

Heather has always had a dream of what she wants. She's been very unsuccessful in the love department though. Her mother dated many guys but they never stuck around long and she saw lots of broken relationships. She always had high hopes and dreams but just hasn't had time or circumstances to find the right guy. She figured it would just happen one day. Her neighbor is gorgeous and just so yummy but he does drive her crazy with his loud at all times music. Saturday is a huge work day in her business and he doesn't seem to understand.

Josh used to work really hard as a Hedge Fund Manager but when his health deteriorated he left that part of his life behind. He's always loved music and numbers. So now he has his music but he feels kind of lost without the numbers. He doesn't know if his sickness will come back or not and doesn't want to have a relationship and die on the girl. He would hate himself for that so he just doesn't let himself get in those situations. He cares about Heather but he feels like he cares too much about her to let her get too hurt over him.

Definitely worth reading and looking forward to the next book in the series.
